How to submit your startup to directories (2026 checklist)
A practical, one-afternoon process for listing a new startup, SaaS or AI tool on directories without wasting time on dead or spammy sites.
1. Prepare your listing kit once
| Item | Spec that fits most directories |
|---|---|
| Tagline | ≤60 characters, no hype words |
| Short description | ≤160 characters |
| Medium descriptions | ≤300 and ≤500 characters |
| Long description | 600–3000 characters, plain text |
| Logo | Square PNG, 512×512 or larger, transparent and white-background versions |
| Screenshots | 3–4 images, 1270×760 or 1280×800; first one is your hero |
| Category + 5 tags | Pick the closest existing category; don't invent one |
| Tracking link | ?utm_source=<directory>&utm_medium=directory |
2. Pick directories that fit
Start from a checked list (ours: best startup directories 2026). Remove AI-only sites if you're not an AI product, and anything that only offers paid listings you don't want. Sort by DR and keep 25–40.
3. Use one signup email
Create a dedicated address or alias for directory accounts so confirmation mail and newsletters don't flood your main inbox. Store each login in a password manager.
4. Submit at a human pace
5–10 a day is plenty. Use the free tier, decline upsells, and never buy votes or reviews. Screenshot each confirmation page.
5. Check results after 7 days
For each directory, record: live URL, status (live / pending / rejected), link type (dofollow / nofollow). Resubmit a rejection at most once, after fixing the reason.
6. Watch the right numbers
Referral visits (from your UTM tags), brand searches and new referring domains in Google Search Console. Don't expect ranking jumps in week one.
